Our Breastfeeding Journey

My youngest is going to be three months old tomorrow and is definitely growing fast. Our journey started off amazing and had absolutely no problems. Until we hit 6 weeks old. I started noticing green mucous poops, extreme eczema flare ups, congestion, struggling at the breast, lots of gas and pain, and huge projectile vomiting. Turns out little dude has CMPA ( Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy). Which is basically an immune response to cows milk. With him being breastfed he was getting it all through my breast milk. When I first found out I felt terrible. I should have known something wasn’t right but I kept pushing it off as normal. He’s 6 weeks old he’s going to react to stuff because he’s brand new. Right? Wrong. Boy was I wrong. I started doing research on it and found out there really isn’t a whole lot of information out there on CMPA especially for breastfeeding moms. What I’ve found is a lot of moms are told to stop breastfeeding. That’s not the case at all. It just took a change in diet. We cut out all dairy completely on June 5th and it has been the best thing I could’ve ever done for myself and my son. We are still breastfeeding and he is doing fantastic. He is almost 15 pounds now from his 8 pound 9 ounce birth weight. He no longer has any symptoms and is thriving. I am so excited to be able to help other moms who may suspect their little one has CMPA. It can be super overwhelming at first but I can promise that with a little time and knowledge it gets so much easier. I am going to be posting a few of my favorite recipes along with a couple of my favorite “substitute” products that I absolutely love.
